Live webcast tonight, 8/28 from Santa Barbara bowl

From www.radiohead.com

Santa Barbara
Hello! To celebrate the end of a brilliant tour, we're going to webcast the last show here in America. We'll be playing live in Santa Barbara, at the Bowl. It's one of our favourite places to play; I think we've ended tours there before, once even playing a cover of ' cinnamon girl '. It's not too big, in fact it's very intimate, a small arena with a dirt floor, set in pretty countryside. It should be a special night, for lots of reasons, and we're going to try and share as much of it as we can on the webcast. Nigel, our producer, will be helping out getting it to you, so if it goes wrong....It's live!

Thank you so much to everyone who's come and seen us this year; it has truly been the most special and exciting tour for all of us.

Webcast details to follow...
x
Colin

Did anyone else catch their Golden Gate Park Show on Friday night?
I was there with my 2 (adult) kids who are visiting from Vancouver , and my sweet man, who had thoughtfully procured the tix months ago.

As always, they played their hearts out....and a great playlist too. But the sound quality sucked, (A couple of black outs, and the volume was wussy)
Also, we were stuck next to a bunch of yahoos who decided to treat the whole event like an evening at a bar.....standing about yakking on the tops of their voices and smoking.
They only paid attention during the big "hits", singing tunelessly on top op their voices. Not sure why people like that bother. Could have just headed down to the local pub for the same effect.

I was expecting to find many bootleg versions of the show online to download...but .....nothing. Are my fellow RH Tribester fans losing their touch?
Hey all, just putting a shout out on the off chance any other Twin Cities folks, or someone passing through on their way down to see Radiohead in St. Louis would like to split gas, driving, etc. I'm really hoping to head down on the 13th and spend the night in St. Louis, or Farfield IA before continuing south. Let me know if you or anyone you know would like to team up for a great roadtrip.
Radiohead/NIN to headline Chicago's Lollapalooza 2008

Lollapalooza 2008 hits Chicago's Grant Park August 1-3, and it's looking like this year's fest has gone to the gloomy and the angry. A report on Chicago Tribune music critic Greg Kot's blog Turn It Up indicates that frequently unnerved Radiohead and perennially angsty Nine Inch Nails will be the guests of honor at Perry Farrell's next party.

According to Kot, "industry sources have confirmed that Radiohead has been booked as the centerpiece of the festival," not terribly surprising given all of Thom Yorke and company's other planned festival activity. Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails will occupy two of the fest's three nightly headlining spots, and it's doubtful anyone will bat an eyelash if Jack Johnson winds up with the third one.

Listening to Up is the New Down now for the SECOND time.... Immediately AMAZING! One of their Best performances... should have on the main album.. but i can sort of see how it wouldn't fit. Intense. It's got a wierd freakish beat...and an EPIC ending.... This will be a classic.

Alot of this feels like a slide back into shallow waters of the pond that kid A and Amnesiac built without sounding like it.....
http://puddlegum.net/radiohead-01-and-10/

Radiohead: 01 and 10
October 20th 2007 by Flick

RadioheadTen years after OK Computer shocked the world, Radiohead released In Rainbows on October 10 (10/10). Though no one was expecting the album to be released until 2008, Radiohead announced In Rainbows just ten days in advance. In Rainbows, which consists of ten letters, has ten tracks, and would be downloadable from a rumored ten servers.

Radiohead preceded the release of In Rainbows with nine cryptic messages. They repeatedly emphasized X, the Roman Numeral for ten, in phrases such as “March Wa X”, and “Xendless Xurbia”. The tenth message was posted on October 10 with a photo of the band drinking tea.

There has been a lot of speculation over Radiohead’s emphasis of ten surrounding the release of In Rainbows. One theory suggests that Radiohead was typifying a binary code of ones and zeros, 1010101010. This has come to be known as the Binary Theory, also called the TENspiracy by some.

Puddlegum first addressed the Binary Theory in Radiohead: 1010101010. Someone associated with Thom Yorke contacted Puddlegum, sharing Thom’s reaction to Puddlegum’s article:

“The meaning behind all of this is right in front of our faces, we’re just overlooking it. [Thom] has been expecting an article much like this one for a couple of years, as have I. But I’m willing to wager he’ll have fun waiting a few more. On the other hand, it seems to annoy him that no one ‘gets it’ yet, given the mountain of clues.”

Ten days after our original article, we have come to believe that OK Computer and In Rainbows were meant to complement each other. During the writing and recording process of OK Computer, Radiohead used the working title of Zeros and Ones. If OK Computer is represented by 01, and In Rainbows is represented by 10, then we have 01 and 10. In binary code 01 and 10 complement each other.

Consider that In Rainbows was meant to complement OK Computer, musically, lyrically, and in structure. We found that the two albums can be knit together beautifully. By combining the tracks to form one playlist, 01 and 10, we have a remarkable listening experience. The transitions between the songs are astounding, and it appears that this was done purposefully.

The lyrics also seem to complement each other. There appears to be a concept flowing through the 01 and 10 playlist. Ideas in one song is picked up by the next, such as “Pull me out of the aircrash,” and “When I’m at the pearly gates, this will be my videotape.”

To create the 01 and 10 playlist, begin with OK Computer’s track one, Airbag, and follow this with In Rainbow’s track one, 15 Step. Alternate the albums, track by track, until you reach Karma Police on OK Computer, making All I Need the tenth track on the 01 and 10 playlist. Follow Karma Police with Fitter Happier from OK Computer, for tracks eleven and twelve. These two tracks act as a bridge between the first ten and the following ten tracks on the 01 and 10 playlist. Then continue to alternate the albums again, picking up with Faust Arp on In Rainbows, with Electioneering on OK Computer as the following track.

Radiohead - 01 and 10 playlist:
1. Airbag (OK Computer)
2. 15 Step (In Rainbows)
3. Paranoid Android (OK Computer)
4. Bodysnatchers (In Rainbows)
5. Subterranean Homesick Alien (OK Computer)
6. Nude (In Rainbows)
7. Exit Music (For A Film) (OK Computer)
8. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi (In Rainbows)
9. Let Down (OK Computer)
10. All I Need (In Rainbows)
11. Karma Police (OK Computer)
12. Fitter Happier (OK Computer)
13. Faust Arp (In Rainbows)
14. Electioneering (OK Computer)
15. Reckoner (In Rainbows)
16. Climbing Up The Walls (OK Computer)
17. House Of Cards (In Rainbows)
18. No Surprises (OK Computer)
19. Jigsaw Falling Into Place (In Rainbows)
20. Lucky (OK Computer)
21. Videotape (In Rainbows)
22. The Tourist (OK Computer)

In Rainbows: (your) Track by Track reviews

15 Step:8/10Upbeat. sassy opener. featuring children yelling "Hey!!". It's cute. Bluesy..boilly guitars. I'm loving this more and more.
Bodysnatchers7/10 It's drirgey. Maybe to rootsy raw for me. It's got a live feel... not liking Thom deliverence here.
Nude:10/10 First steller track. Ghostly. Gorgeous.
Weird Fishes/Arpeggi:9/10 Gorgeous. Fast/Slow.It begins warm and summery. Reminds me of "knives out" but without the overt complexity. It swells and grows into a running intensity... then submerges into an abrupt cold abyss when the orchestra drones come sliding in. Starry eyed electronics accent this full band track. Subsequent spins on this track reveal the texture of an underwater adventure..... but despite the joyus upbeat tempo there no "escape".
All I Need: 7/10 Starts slow. Evil lurking gassy green bass lines drive it. Reminds me so so so much of a sequel to climing up the walls. I see it as an obsessive wannabe lover watching from the outside of a window at someone who doesn't know he exist but he's there. great climax!
Faust Arp: 9/10 small ditty that just unfurls with Thom grasping at multiple melodies in a short period of time. I love this. It gorgeous. quick. Before you're done with the fast folk guitar and cinematic orchestra.. you're at the top of hill watching the sun set. Perfect set up for the next track.
Reckoner: 10/10 I do believe this is one of their best songs EVER...and will get attention for the rest of this year and on. Jazzy drums. Thoms voice (harmonizing with himself) is set to high as the entire orchestration arrangement pieces itself together unforced. It boils and swells and sustains it's heat. I think this song is sensual and I wish i were in tortured unrequited love affair that was so emotionally difficult i would think of suicide to relieve my pain. I would play this song while contemplating my failed romance on a bridge in Paris bridge while it rains and im wearing an expensive armani trench coat.

this sounds expensive. Lush. what more can i say. classic. Belongs in a Bertolucci film.

House of Cards: 9/10 Gorgeous but ultimately boring. Straight forward but oh so pretty. It's a song to me thats just really well executed. Touches no strings.

Jigsaw fallin into place: 7/10 I never thought we could compare anything post ok computer to Pablo Honey.

Videotape: 9/10 After initial disappointment i think this is goreous. Haunting. what a way to end an album that starts with a song with sampled childrens glee.

Radiohead DONE with recording.

Jonny Greenwood: Radiohead "Finished Recording"

And there you have it! Straight from the mouth of Jonny Greenwood and onto the pages of Paste.com and then ateaseweb.com comes word that Radiohead have indeed finished their latest opus, or the recording part of it anyhow. The follow-up to Hail to the Thief. The one that may very well feature children and will allegedly not come out this year.

For more on that, heeeere's Jonny: "We just had a meeting...today," Greenwood told Paste.com on September 7. "We're very relieved to have finished recording. Now we have to decide what we should do with it."

That decision revolves, in large part, around the fact that mighty Radiohead are presently label-less, having fulfilled their contract with EMI. And that's where you come in! Want to release the new Radiohead album on your own awesome underground oh-so-hip DIY imprint?? Just shoot the band an email at fatchance@hellsno.com.

As previously reported, Jonny Greenwood's Popcorn Superhet Receiver makes its U.S. debut this coming January.

Johnny Greenwood to Score PT anderson Film!!!

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/45456-jonny-greenwood-scores-paul-thomas-anderson-film

Say it with me now in a scary voice: There Will Be Blood. And, as the trailer to this forthcoming film by Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love) indicates, there will also be original music...by Jonny Greenwood!

The Radiohead guitarist, already burning up the Pitchfork newsroom today, has taken his orchestral muse and applied it to Mr. Anderson's latest film, PT's first feature since 2002's Punch-Drunk (which, along with 1999's Magnolia, had a score by Jon Brion). This one stars Daniel Day-Lewis and looks to be an oil baron thriller inspired by Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel Oil!. No word on a theatrical release yet.

Big thanks to reader M.S. Markham for the tip!

And just in case you didn't take Greenwood's word for it, Radiohead's publicist has confirmed that the band has definitely finished its latest album. Hooray!

Trailer here:

radiohead ringtones?

my ringtones suck. i'm always missing calls because i can't bear to have any of those horrible sounds emanate from my phone. stays on vibrate. only a radiohead ringtone would remedy the situation (well, stereolab could, too). even if it's cheesy. i'd rather have a cheesy radiohead ringtone over one that's just cheesy and bad and makes me wanna bash the thing every time it rings. (wouldn't "national anthem" be a great one to have?)

and i don't mind paying for it. anyone got any leads?

i love all you radiohead-heads!

I think this is worth watching, if for no other reason than you get to hear (and see) Thom singing a few lines of 'Walking in a Winter Wonderland." (I think that's what it was. Some Xmas carol at any rate)

Thom Yorke talks new Radiohead album

Radiohead's new album due out later in the year is described by Thom Yorke as similar to OK Computer "but much more terrifying." The album, which includes tour-tested tracks like Videotape and Bangers & Mash is their first since their Parlophone deal expired and, as Yorke says, "We've always worked best when we aren't bothered about making mistakes".

Dear Friends,

just put a rough mix of the second song in my demo, Fade, up on my myspace page: www.myspace.com/rachelmargaretmusic. It should be ready to listen to in a few hours--the myspace server has to convert it to a streaming file first. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

The first song in the demo, Buena Vista Park, got some really nice feedback. Thanks so much for your comments on that.

I would also like to invite you to my concert at the Red Vic on November 8th. For this concert, I will be joined by Eric Vogler on guitar/bass and John Rybak on guitar.

when ok computer first came out, i exclaimed, "dude!!! this is this generation's dark side of the moon!"

apparently, i'm not the only one who thinks so!

do you guys recall the reggae/dub version of dark side of the moon that came out a few years ago? well, the guys who did it are now doing...

YES!!! a reggae version of ok computer!!!

it's called radiodread, and it comes out this month!

here's a link, but i've pasted the info below for those of you too lazy to click. enjoy, all you radiohead heads!

http://www.giantstep.net/releases/1072

"Following the success of 'Dub Side of The Moon' (a reggae adaptation of Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon'), which has been on Billboard's Reggae Chart for three years and counting, Easy Star Records brings 'Radiodread,' a complete reggae version of Radiohead's 'OK Computer,' a project two years in the making.

'Radiodread' draws out the universal messages in Radiohead's masterpiece, which speaks to the need to create spiritual human interactions in the face of cold technology and soul-crushing routine. Easy Star's Lem Oppenheimer attests, "Reggae music, born in opposition to colonial oppression, conveys hope in the bleakest moments. Likewise, there is humor and hope in the voices of 'OK Computer's' lyrics and that's where we found the deepest connections with the reggae spirit."

Meanwhile, Easy Star's in-house producer Michael G faced a major undertaking arranging the material to suit the Easy Star All Stars reggae strengths. With so many different time signatures, inscrutable lyrics and countless chord changes, 'OK Computer' was far more complicated to translate to reggae than Dark Side of the Moon had been. Michael G explains, "To make 'Radiodread' work, we had to go in new directions entirely. In some places, we moved away from Radiohead's blueprint; in other cases, it meant holding on to many of the original rock elements."

To his credit, the result carries the sonic weight of the original, while providing a fresh viewpoint, further illuminating the power and themes of these songs. For example, "Airbag," the opener, sees a guitar/cello hook that gives way to discordant guitar solos and a dubbed out disco mix.

'Radiodread' features an impressive array of reggae stars supplying vocals to the Easy Star All- Stars' backing tracks. Reggae pioneers Toots and the Maytals make their Easy Star debut, singing a driving version of "Let Down" while Citizen Cope's distinctive voice fuels the haunting "Karma Police." Horace Andy ("Airbag"), Morgan Heritage ("Electioneering"), The Meditations ("No Surprises"), Israel Vibration ("The Tourist"), Sugar Minott ("Exit (Music For A Film)"), Frankie Paul ("Lucky") also join The Easy Star All-Stars for 'Radiodread.'

TOUR DATES
September 14 Baltimore, MD Recher Theater
September 15 Charlottesville, VA Starr Hill Music Hall
September 16 Carrboro, NC Cat's Cradle
September 17 Atlanta, GA Smith's Olde Bar
September 19 Athens, GA Georgia Theater
September 21 Falls Church, VA State Theater"

i'm going to the charlottesville show...

Mahalo Nui Loa, Radiohead fans

I know this post is not directly radiohead-related, but i felt as though some soul brothers and sisters could benefit be reading the following:

On the night of Friday, October 6, 2006, a community of friends gathered
in Iao Valley, Maui, as a benefit for the Hawaii Nature Center. Despite
very limited planning time, the intense energy of 'Iao Valley, and our
fears and misgivings about our ability to run a safe and positive event,
the event was a success: a wonderful evening with gorgeous weather and
good people. I want to thank all of the people that helped to make the
night possible. I specifically wish to thank the staff and management team
of the Hawaii Nature Center, who were able to pull together and assist,
even with lingering doubts about the wisdom and appropriateness of the
benefit. Thank you. Your help is not unrecognized or unappreciated. I
also wish to thank my new friend Charles Ka'upu, who, with less than a
day's notice, drove hours from his home in Napili in order to bring us
together, enchant us with ‘oli, teach us about 'Iao, prepare and serve us
'awa, and allow us to feel safe, welcome, and embraced by the Valley.
Thank you for answering the call, Charles. To those others who put forth
their time, effort, and resources to the event, I wish to thank you also.

What made the night especially poignant was the fact that this gathering
coincided with a convergence of positive energy on Maui, including visits
by such spiritual giants as Shiva Rea, Krishna Das, and Ram Dass, with
whom I had the incredible honor of BE-ing Sunday night in Ha’iku.
Expression of Gratitude

My name is Wade Holmes. I am the Program Manager here at the Hawaii Nature Center ‘Iao Valley. I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for being here on this very special night. I have been involved with the Nature Center for about 5 years and know first-hand what a terrific organization it is. I want you to all know that the Hawai’i Nature Center is a community resource that invites you all to participate. The Hawai’i Nature Center is a private 501c(3) non-profit organization whose purpose it is to foster awareness, appreciation and understanding of Hawai’i and to encourage wise stewardship of the islands in the future. Please take the time tonight to look around, find out about who we are, how we are trying to make the world a better place, and how you can get involved. Tour the museum, make a donation, take the time to take our “Extreme Makeover: Lodge Edition” tour—showings every hour in the conference room! Talk to the community you see around you. Discover how you can become a part of it. We have sign up sheets that explain projects we are working on and towards. There is much work to be done.

In keeping with the cosmological theme for the evening, I’d like to tell a short story. Now, I don’t normally read or invest too much in my horoscopes. How curious, then, that I would read and be prompted to cut out and post on my fridge my horoscope that preceded the most magical lunar cycle of my entire life, during which time I visited such magical places as Mt. Shasta, the Ancient Redwood Forests of Northern California, Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, and Esalen Institute in Big Sur.

The following was my horoscope:
Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)
You can’t spin straw into gold—yet. But you are capable of performing similar wealth-attracting miracles—when you want to. Your problem isn’t lack of ability; it’s discipline over your own mind. You don’t lack ambition, really; Pisces are dreamers first and foremost. It’s just sometimes difficult getting yourself to do the things that will make your dreams reality. I think you question, often, whether you truly want your dreams to come true. Once you stop doing that, they probably will.

I want to be very clear about this. Make no mistake about it—what you are all witnessing is a miracle. Less than a year ago today I was in a deep depression, curled up in a fetal position in a smelly sleeping bag in a tiny room that I had rented in a stranger’s home, on antipsychotic medication, contemplating suicide, believing I had nothing to my name and nothing going for me in the future. I believed I had blown my entire potential and that my life would never be good again. I was full of hatred and anger at myself, and therefore, at theWorld, as they are ONE and the same.

Do you know what it was that saved me? Not the antidepressants, not the money that I had to borrow from my wonderful Mother. My community saved me. It was a miracle. Today I am witnessing a community saving the Nature Center. A hero of mine, Terence McKenna, once said that all it takes is to witness one miracle to make a person a lifelong optimist. I would like to testify to the truth of that statement. I want to take this chance to personally express my gratitude to those that facilitated the miracle of my life.

Thank you, David. Thank you, Robert. Thank you, Mahlon. Thank you, JD. Thank you, Markus. Thank you, all my Big Island, O’ahu, and Maui friends. To those that were not able to physically be here tonight—Thank you Jamie. Thank you Jennie. Thank you, Sirkka. Thank you, Stephanie. Thank you, Joe. Thank you, Craig. Thank you, Bruce. Thank you, Darren. Thank you, my wonderful new Northern California Friends. Thank you, Peter. Thank you, Will. Gracias, Don Diego. Meow,Bitsy. Thank you, Mom. Thank you, Dad. Thank you, Family. Perhaps most important: Thank you, Mother Earth. Mahalo, Hawai’i. Mahalo, Maui. Mahalo, ‘Iao.

Because of the miracle that I have experienced, I believe in the possibility of positive future and have dedicated my life to achieve that. I hope you will all join me in the effort. Let’s Create the World We Want to See. I’m telling you: Anything IS possible. MAHALO.

.......listening to PANDORA.COM (a cool program-your-own-radio-station-site), when the unmistakeable chorus from "Lucky", all acoustic, came soothingly into my ears, but NOT by Radiohead.
A quick study revealed it was Warren Haynes, of Gov't Mule/ Allman Bros. fame (and a fuckin' ace guitar player) who played an all acoustic set @ Bonneroo 2004 (?), and busted out a PHAT cover version of this and other classics. Recomended, for hang overs and quiet dinner parties.........

radiohead lullabies

um, like, whoa:

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/37872/Radiohead_Become_Lullabies

Radiohead Become Lullabies
How to cultivate infinitely hip toddlers

We've heard reggae Radiohead. We've heard goth Radiohead. We've heard classical Radiohead. We've heard emo Radiohead. We've heard electronic Radiohead. We've heard hip-hop Radiohead.

Now get ready for...baby Radiohead! On August 29, Baby Rock Records brings you Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Radiohead. Other planned lullaby tribute victims include Bjork, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Coldplay, Queens of the Stone Age, the Cure, the Beatles, and Tool.

Not making this up:

"Rockabye Baby! transforms timeless rock songs into beautiful instrumental lullabies. The delicate sounds of the glockenspiel, vibraphone, and other instruments will lull your little one into a sweet slumber. These versions of Radiohead are sophisticated enough for people of all ages, but sweet enough to introduce your child to rock's smartest band. Their album Kid A imagines the scope and power of music created by a newborn child. What will your baby dream about while drifting off to these serene interpretations of Radiohead's best-loved songs?"

so, i've been trying to figure out this lyric and it's driving me nuts. at first it sounded to me like he was singing 'so many are lies, so many are lies, so feel the love come off of them . . .", but that didn't really make sense to me so i looked up the lyrics online. the first page i went to had the lyric as "so many allies, so many allies . . .". but then i kept looking and every other site listed the lyrics as "so many lies, so many lies . . ." but now it sounds to me like he's saying "allies", or something close to it. what do you all think? (to me the song makes more sense with the lyric 'allies').

Yorke vs. Blair, Round 2

Thom Yorke: Tony Blair Should Resign

August 2, 2006

"We must throw Tony Blair out of office NOW," the Radiohead frontman wrote in a post on his band's official site.

Thom Yorke has called for British Prime Minister Tony Blair's resignation via a post on Radiohead's official site. Citing Blair's focus on maintaining friendships with President Bush and Rupert Murdoch, and his indecision on the conflict in Lebanon and Israel, Yorke suggested the British people throw him out of office or at least give a vote of "no confidence."

http://www.spin.com/features/news/2006/08/060802_thomyorke/

--

Here was his original blog entry on DAS (it appears it has been taken down, as his posts so often do):

Tue, 01 August
(my personal opinion)
ive had enough of this

our government sitting on the fence with the US while world war 3 appears
to be breaking out in Lebanon and Northern Israel.

we must throw Tony Blair our of office NOW.

he does not represent the views of the british people.

he does not represent the views of his foreign office and officials.

he does not even represent the views of those in his cabinet.

he cares far too much about his relationship with Bush, and Murdoch.

this man is not fit to be our prime minister.

its a nice sunny day. come on lets do it. you know it makes sense.

a vote of no confidence. or something. anything..

Thom

---

For your visual pleasure, here is a link to a pic of an oh-so-adorable Thom which accompanies an article that talks about his post being taken down:
http://www.nme.com/news/radiohead/23811

---
And a non-Radiohead-related video, but still funny nonetheless (QT required):
Yeah, yeah, I know it's old. I still laugh everytime I see it.

---

Dear Thom: Will you marry me?

Thom's reaction to hearing that one of the preznit's daughters was in the audience for their NY show. From Dead Air Space http://www.radiohead.com/deadairspace/:

on the shitlist

this'll make you laugh.

i was told yesterday that one of the daughters of the president came to NY show 2.
we were playing THe Tourist at the end of the show.. and yyes we did wander what the shuffling manhandling fighting was in the distance of the audience.
turns out it was her 6 bodyguards clearing the way for the first daughters exit. and some pour soul objected at being manhandled by the secret service. i think i would have to.

infact if i had known all this my objections would have been more forthright and extensive...if you know what i mean. which is perhaps why our lot chose not to tell me who was in the building before we went on. probably a good idea.

hmm
i dont know if we should be

A. honoured
B. amused
C. bemused
D. ask if she had a valid ticket
E. object belatedly on moral grounds
F. ask again if she had a ticket and question whether this really what our gigs are about
G. dont blame the daughter for the father
H. shutup and smile

answers on a postcard

bonaroo today woo hoo

I just got devoured by online scalpers.....

....bought a pair of Tickets for the Greek theatre in Berkeley , a grand total of $240.
Oh my...
Tried Ticketmaster at 10am. Found a pair of tickets for $43 each.
But by the time I had filled out my credit card info, the 2 minutes had expired....transaction cancelled. So, I tried again...faster this time. Nada. All sold out. Both shows. A complete scam, I think.

Now, I was pretty desperate to get ickets. My son will be visiting me from Vancouver that week, and I really wanted to take him....22nd birthday gift. He is a rabid Radiohead maniac, and got me infected, so I thought it would be a special once in a lifetime thing to do together. And I really can't afford it, but you only live once, and all that shit.

Well, after I get the $240 tickets, I get an e mail saying that the tranaction is "not final", depends on ticket "availability", etc.
I get a little nervous, as I am thinking: scam.

So, I go online again, different site , and bid on another pair , for the other show.
Waiting to hear if I get them....
Right after I bid on these, though , the first pair are confirmed.

If I do get the second pair,, I m going to have to find someone to buy them off me....one pair at $240 is already way beyond my means...definitely don't need a second pair!

Oh, Thom, the things I do for you
(And oh, Vincent (my son) the things I do for *you*!!)

Anyone want an extra pair of exhorbitant tickets?

Exit Music. Can't listen to it. On random shuffle i skip always. Why?

New years eve 2003 approaching 2004, 12 midnite on the road I had my first car accident WITH OK computer on and Exit Music was the track that played while my friends tires blew out and the car spun out of control into a truck. I shudder. eerie indeed. To perfect. Exit music plays while you die. I got out with out a scratch just a really sore back. Just the placement of it all makes that song unlistenable....and darker. But it's oh so beautiful.

So.... anyone have any favorite RH tracks for one reason or another you avoid....and rarely play? Why?

Kid A kicked my

hi all,

so yeah january can be a tough month for me.

i was in the library, and for the first time i was looking through the cd collection -- wow i haven't listened to an actual cd in so long i've been in mp3 land -- and there it was -- Radiohead Kid A

I'm one of those guys who loved the creep single years ago when there was 'modern rock', but i did not try to keep up with the band. i heard stuff on the radio, music stores, etc of course, but especially when everyone started fawning i had no interest.

i was too busy listening to electronica and dj music, when i wasn't listening to woody guthrie, beastie boys, and oh i dont know Quasi.

so yeah i've been really down this month. i hadnt played my guitar in weeks and was in a general 'why go on with life' mode. i could give you a list of all the whys -- but lets just move on.

so i listened to kid a in the library while i was on the laptop. i always loved the purity of those first few notes of 'everything in its right place'

i listened to the cd again when i got home -- and it happened. its like that whole piece of music, and the incredible sadness and frustration i've been feeling -- listening to it both tore and healed me at the same time.

finally -- i'm listening to music that is fully modern -- and really emotional. where they are ironic -- but not about the important stuff.

and then 'idioteque' -- i remember listening to a live version of that song that i really liked -- but it was like in some listening station in a store. so in some ways this was the first time i listened to it. and the urgency of it, the desolation of the guitar solo, the repeating of women and children first, like a cry of compassion before the ship of idiot moderns slips under...

and then Morning Bell -- which is like some country sun beamed dawn after nightmare rescues.

am listening to amnesiac next...

turn your world around

In light of the absolutely ridiculous scalping going on for their current tour dates, I thought I would share a story.

About 5 years ago, Radiohead came to play the Gorge in Washington State, and I bought two tickets, because I was going to take a friend and long-time fan who had yet to see them live. We were both soooooo excited, but then maybe 2 weeks before the show, he suddenly got word that his work was sending him away on business for the week during which the show was going to happen.

It was terrible, and I was left with this extra ticket and unsure what to do with it. I could've easily resold it, but I had bought it as a gift for somebody who had never seen them, and I wanted to keep the spirit of the gesture. So instead, I started asking around among my friends and coworkers to find a hardcore fan who for some reason had never seen them, and within a day, one of my friends was telling me about his ex-girlfriend, who wa a HUGE fan but hadn't been able to get tickets and had been hoping for a radio contest or *something* to get her there. He put us in touch, and we made the arrangements for me to pick her up the day of the show.

The concert was phenomenal, and seeing them play as the sun set over the canyon behind them was incredible, but the most amazing thing for me was knowing that I was able to do something magical for a fellow fan.

Radiohead's Thom Yorke Plans Solo Album

Radiohead's Thom Yorke Plans Solo Album
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2006/05/15/entertainment/e093043D91.DTL&hw=radiohead&sn=001&sc=1000

Monday, May 15, 2006
(05-15) 11:36 PDT New York (AP) --

Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke will release his first solo album, "The Eraser," in July.

Yorke says he doesn't want to hear rumors of a rift with the band — or even the word "solo."

"This was all done with (the band's) blessing," he says. "And I don't want to hear that word solo. Doesn't sound right."

Yorke released a statement this weekend to various Radiohead fan sites disclosing the album, which he played on and wrote. Independent label XL Recordings said it would release the disc in the United Kingdom on July 10 and in the U.S. on July 11.

"The elements have been kicking round now for a few years and needed to be finished," says Yorke, 37. "I have been itching to do something like this for ages. It was fun and quick to do."

The album was produced and arranged by frequent Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. Yorke says the music is "more beats and electronic," adding, "but it's songs." A track list of nine songs was released, as was the cover art by Stanley Donwood, who has frequently worked with Radiohead.

Radiohead is now touring Europe and, according to Yorke, writing new songs. After the tour concludes in late August, they plan to return to the studio to record their seventh album.

Thom and Jonny performed at the Big Ask benefit at Koko in London this evening. A couple of new songs were played, including "Arpeggi", "Bodysnatchers", and "Cymbal Rush".

I've only heard Cymbal Rush... really pretty.... and emotive. I've yet to get to the others. You can download them there in a RAR file... I love the pre album build-up.

OK Computer Part Deux?

Thom Yorke tells the NME that Radiohead's new songs invoke similar emotions to those on their classic OK Computer. Yorke told the British music magazine that, "It's about that anonymous fear thing, sitting in traffic, thinking, 'I'm sure I'm supposed to be doing something else.' Interestingly enough it's similar to OK Computer in a way. It's much more terrifying. But OK Computer was terrifying too - some of the lyrics were."

Yorke also revealed that up to 16 songs are being considered for the new album, including "Nude," "15 Step," "Arpeggi" and "House Of Cards."

RADIOHEAD SUMMER TOUR CONFIRMED

I thought this was important: A major summer tour is expected to conincide with the 'Head's festival dates, as this article from billboard surmises:

"Radiohead is eyeing multiple-night stands in Montreal, Toronto, Philadelphia and Chicago as part of its summer North American tour, which will get underway in June, Billboard.biz has learned. Dates, venues and an opening act are still being finalized. For now, the lone confirmed show is a June 17 headlining set at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tenn."

No need for rumours, looks like they'll be hitting San Francisco some time this summer!
